Top 10 lies of procrastination and the truths of Scripture
Lie #1: Itâs your time. You should be able to use it as you desire.
Truth: Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:15-17).
Lie #2: If you put off what you fear until tomorrow, you will be less anxious.
Truth: When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. Â What can flesh do to me? (Psalm 56:3-4)
Lie #3: If you do the things you should do today, you wonât have time for the things you want to do.
Truth: Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper (Proverbs 13:4, NLT)
Lie #4: You wonât be able to complete this task if you start itâbetter not to try.
Truth: And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).
Lie #5: This task is too difficult for you. Wait until itâs easier.
Truth: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:5, 6).
Lie #6: God is not there for you, youâll have to figure this out on your own.
Truth: Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73:25-26).
Lie #7: You canât change. Thatâs just the way you are.
Truth:Â Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Lie #8: Better to live for yourself today; you can start following God tomorrow.
Truth: For God says, âAt just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.â Indeed, the âright timeâ is now. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Lie # 9: You always have tomorrow to do the things you could do today.
Truth:Â Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
Lie #10: Youâll never resolve this conflict; wait for them to come to you.
Truth:Â âIf your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother (Matthew 18:15).
